I'd love
to hear from you, am always happy to help out other creative types,
and welcome input and ideas for science or other nerdy artwork.
Also, I think you should know that whenever I receive press coverage
or new wholesale accounts, my kids get a special trip to Krispy
Kreme. No pressure.

FAQ
Do you ship internationally?
ABSOLUTELY. I love the whole world, and feel it would be rude to exclude you all just because of a tiny postal hassle. So order away! Paypal will calculate shipping using a mysterious formula that I will never understand. Don't worry about it; if you're undercharged I will cover the difference. If you are overcharged for shipping I'll refund the difference.
Hey! I ordered from you
and where's my stuff? Or you sent me the wrong thing! Or you sent
me the right thing but my post man has anger issues and he shoved
everything into the mail box and now it's all bent up and damaged
and this is making me sad.
Oh no, don't be sad! Write to me. I will fix everything.

I'm buying this as
a gift. Can you include a card letting the recipient know who
this package is from?
Oh, totally. Just email me and let me know what the note should
say. creative@tiffanyard.com
Are your products
safe for kids?
I am a mother myself, and I would not hesitate to feed any of my products to my own babies. Everything is lead free, but most of it is paper so please take care not to cut yourself.
The Schroedinger's Kitty books do contain 3" squares of felt
that could in theory be ripped out of the book and eaten, and
nobody wants to change those diapers. My husband and I hand-glue
and assemble every book so really, the books are intended to be
mini works of art, not toys. Please supervise your children. If
any of the pieces in the book become loose, please take the book
away and send it back to me for a replacement or refund.
When you make your
stuff, do you even THINK about the environment? Are you nice to
trees and rivers and animals?
I start to freak out if I think too much about global warming,
so goodness knows I don't want to add to the problem if I can
help it. But let's be honest: I'm printing things on paper, then
I'm shipping that paper to people. Here's what I do to make it
all somewhat okay:
- Use recycled papers whenever possible
- Use vegetable-based inks
- Hire local vendors as often as possible to avoid uneccesary
shipping
- Only choose vendors who recycle their scrap paper and take
steps to reduce waste
- Donate or re-use damaged or unsellable prints and posters
for other art projects. I hate to throw anything away!
- In the interest of animal happiness, I stop working frequently
to pet my dog
Things printed in China are bad.
Where are your things printed?
In the U.S.A. -- usually by local small business printing companies
who will put up with me being complicated and needy.
What is the best age
to start quizzing my chidren with your flash cards?
According to some experts if you have to ask, it's already too
late. Your children are doomed to a life of not being smart now.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOooooomed!!
But really any age is fine.
Will you ever make
a print about advanced cryogeologic forensics? Or thermal optics
engineering? Or lunar sattelite orbit trajectories?
I am working on new pieces and ideas all the time. If there's
a particular field you'd like to see covered, send me an email.
I can't promise I'll do it but you never know, you know?
Hey! I found a mistake
in your artwork!
Dang it. I try to double-check everything before going to print
but once in a very long while something gets through. If you think
you've caught something, please let me know. But before you write:
- D is for Diurnal -- yes, I know that most birds
aren't nocturnal. That is why she is sleeping.
- V is for Virus -- I definitely could have chosen something that looked more traditionally viruslike, with the jabby pointy spikes and all but I did the sketches whilst having the flu. The flu was making me mad. As of Fall 2009, this card has a subtle label indicating that it is indeed a virus.
- This is not a turtle -- some people have written
to let me know that technically tortoises are a kind of turtle.
So I consulted a bunch of turtle experts and learned a whole
lot about the study of turtles, mainly that turtle people
are friendly and don't agree on the semantics here. In North
America, generally though yeah, you got me. But! Wait! It's
NOT a turtle! It is a PICTURE of a turtle.
If this doesn't work for you but you still like the print,
please consider a move to Australia or Britain where turtles
and tortoises are considered more distinct.
- Notation for Decibles -- if you have an older set
of ABC cards, the notation is incorrect on P is for Positive
Correlation. It says DB where is should say dB. Email
me if you'd like a replacement P card so your baby doesn't
learn the incorrect way to write about loudness.
- 1 Electron in H -- Now fixed! If you have an older
set of flash cards, send me an email
and I'll zip a brand new #1 card to you.
- 4 covalent bond points -- Did I mention that I
had the flu when I designed the original sets? As of Fall
2009, the #4 card more accurately reflect the way that tiny
things are imagined to interact with one another. That makes
your set a collector's item! But holler
if you want a replacement card for your older set.
Does the binary code
on the B card spell something out?
Yes it does.
Do you offer originals?
Rarely. The text in most of my work is added using a computer,
so the originals are sort of lame on their own. I do have a few
originals in my etsy
shop.
Can I commission a
piece?
Yes. The price for commissioned pieces has gone up because I'm
busy these days. $200 is a starting point for most commissions,
but may be more or less depending on how complicated or big the
work needs to be. I retain all rights to future use of commissioned
work.
Are you secretly a
big slick company with corporate backing?
Yes!
Wait. No. My kids and I address every package by
hand and then lug it all in those giant blue IKEA bags to the
post office.
Why? Do you know of a big slick company who is interested in corporately
backing me?
Are you ever going to make t-shirts in larger sizes? Please?
YES! Shirts are step four in my plan to take over the world. We are looking at summer 2011.
